My previous work2
『Tsutsumu 』
The subject of this work is making a fiber art.
I think the role of textile is wrapping something. For instance, when
a baby is born, he is wrapped with a padded coverlet, and people
always wear clothes in their life. It means that people are wrapped
with textiles all the time.
Then, I attempted wrapping objects with yarn, and the wrapped
objects are completely different from the original one. I intently
wound yarns around wires. It seemed just like making a part of a
world or a town. I think this work expresses my feeling every time
when I wound yarns. The colors and shapes of this work reprsent
my mind of everyday life.
After making this work, I further knew about myself and my mind.

Unit1- Reflective Statement for Blog
Throughout Unit 1( Rough Guide project, Theory tasks, Blog, and Winding and Wrapping works), I learnt a range of important academic skills such as how to research, how to analysis, how to develop idea and knowledge, and how to communicate with other students and tutors. During this unit, I realized some my weak and strong points.
The most difficult points for me in this term is time management. At first part of this unit, I could not manage time, as I did not get used to school-timetable and new environment, London. For this reason, I was exhausted every day and I could not do anything after school. But at the end of this unit, I had managed my time gradually.
When it comes to Rough Guide project, I put a lot of effort into visual research. I walked around the area that I was assigned enthusiastically to collect information as much as possible. And also I actively exchanged opinion about Rough Guide drawing with my fellows. Listening to other student's idea and suggestion was useful to develop my idea. But I think that I should have more focused on textual research like collecting street detritus, fabric swatches, and labels.
As for Theory tasks, to be honest, process of research was definitely hard for me. Because, I had to read and understand academic text written in English, second language for me. So the process of research for Theory tasks took a large amount of time. Sometimes I went to English support class to collect my draft of theory tasks. English support class is much helpful for me, so I would like to continue going to it every week. In addition to this I think that I have to read books written in English, and study English hard to get used to academic English. I must need more patience.
In terms of Blog, in fact, I do not like writing blog so much. So writing blog is new challenge for me. At first, I did not know what should I write on my blog, and writing sentences in English was not easy for me. Compared with other student's blog, the quality of my blog is clearly inferior to theirs. I need to improve my blog, and continue writing blog for my creations after this term, as I realized that blog is very effective to record my works, feelings and ideas.

Stitch Technical Block
At the first week of stitch technical block, honestly, I did not know what should I do. As I can use any materials even these do not look like textile materials. It is absolutely liberty, but also it is difficult to make suitable decision on what I would like to express.
At first, I tried to use thin translucent cloth, but a tutor gave me some advice about materials I should use, so I changed my mind and I tried to use plastic tube as main material to make final samples. I attempted combining the plastic tube and plastic beads, spangles, and yarn by heat pressing.
I thought 2 weeks was too short to try a lot of new techniques, consider appropriate materials and make 4 final pieces. But personally, I could do my best for stitch technical block.

Machine knitting Practice
Finally I bought own knitting machine to practice using the machine, while I came back to Japan in winter holiday. I think I would like to make a sweater using it. But it must take a long time..... I need patience.

Blythe House Visiting
I could get opportunity to see valuable textile archives at Blythe House. Although these archives are textile samples more than 20 years ago, I did not feel that the design of these archives is too old. Some samples are modern design, and used interesting yarn. I felt inspired by the archives especially weaving one.
